Closing off 2012
Who could have told 2012 would be such a moving year for Phoenix’Ashes?
It would mainly be the year that we switched drummer, saying goodbye to Ruben and welcoming Harry. On top of that, we proudly released a new music video, toured to Italy again and both Arian as Arnout made their debuts with their other bands, One Wonders and Circle of Silence.
As for 2013, we already have a lot of nice stuff planned. As we speak, we are making pre-recordings for our next 5-song E.P. Also, we are doing a new tour in March! Enough Phoenix’Ashes to look forward to!!
To close off this year properly, we will play two more shows. Make sure you catch us then!!

Andromeda Official Music Video
These last few weeks have been like some sort of crazy rollercoaster for us. Starting with the tour in September, we played the last amazing shows (some of them unforgettable) with Ruben behind the drumkit.
Last weekend, Harry finally made his debut as the new drummer of Phoenix’Ashes in a hot and steamy Bluff. It will be the kick off of a whole new Phoenix’Ashes era, since we have some pretty nice things planned!
We were happy to share the stage with two fantastic bands. Arcadya Lake, who also got a recent drummer switch, kicked off with a brutal set, which contained some awesome new tunes. Although the next band started as the big unknown of the night, A Drop In The Ocean from Germany managed to get every single person to go nuts for their crazy ass riffs and brutal breakdowns! This certainly will not be the last time we have seen these guys!
Next weekend, we play at Geleen’s indoor festival Skullyfest. We are looking forward to play at the Boerderij for one last time, before it gets shut down again. We will see you there!!
And then, the main reason for this news update: as one final honour to now former member Ruben, we are releasing our very first music video!! It was shot by the wizard Roland from Viex Productions, who we can recommend to every band who want to make a killer music video! The choice for a song was easy, as this one stands for friendship, overcoming all obstacles and for overcoming all obstacles because of friendship.
We had a lot of fun making it, we hope you will enjoy watching it as well! Phoenix’Ashes proudly present: the official music video for Andromeda!

The Goodbye
Last Saturday, we said goodbye to one of our founding members, while we were celebrating our 5 year anniversary. On top of that, we raised money for Stop Tetanus, a worldwide Kiwanis project. Both Nynke and Arnout had a double task that night as their Kiwanis Club Young Professionals Bronsgroen Zuid-Limburg took care of the fundraising part of the night. It was a great night with some of the best bands and a good atmosphere. We want to thank JC Downtown for their hospitality!

Some Kiwanians experienced their first rockshow ever - and liked it!!We started off with One Wonders, who are more connected to Phoenix’Ashes than any other band! Of course you will recognize the flaming red coupe of our very own Arian, but some will also remember the days when lead guitarplayer Niels was a part of us!

One Wonders will not be a one hit wonderThe fact that this band just played their second gig, did not match the show they gave! It is clear that connecting all of these talented musicians and a looong time of preparation really does pay off! We will be hearing from them much more in the future.
The second spot was filled by our We Are The Troops buddies from Rise A Thousand. This is post-hardcore as it should be: melodic and heavy, just the way we like it. Great to have shared the stage with them again. Great music and even greater people! We want more from where that came from!

Rise A Thousand rocking the stageNext up were the merauding Embrace Destruction. These Italian guys have brought us so much fun since we first got to know them in 2009. We were more than stoked to have them at this special occasion. Hardcore in pizza style literally brought some heads banging! We love you guys!

Embrace Destruction came and conquered once againBefore we ourselves would enter the stage, there would first be some prizes to give away! All night the crowd has been buying lottery tickets to win some awesome stuff. The Kiwanis crew sure made some happy faces. Thanks go out to the sponsors Guus Arons, Snowstar Records, Satisfaction Records and the playing bands! And of course congrats to all the winners!
Standing in line for lottery tickets
Kiwanis giving away one of the big prizes (pic thanks to Sascha Mijnstreek Online)Finally the time had come. Ruben would enter the stage for the last time in our band. We played with passion, but also with a lump in our throats. Thank you Ruben for 5 years of rocking and good times! We wish you all the luck with your future plans and ambitions!!
Ruben’s last… (pic thanks to Sascha Mijnstreek Online)So today is the start of another new week, but it also rings in a new era of Phoenix’Ashes. Next Wednesday, we are rehearsing our asses off before our new drummer Harry (HARRYHUDSON!!!!) makes his debut as an Asher. We have some reall nice stuff coming up these next few months, so keep an eye open! For now, make sure you are at Café Bluff next Sunday to welcome our newest member!!

Ruben will play his very last show as an Asher before Harry will take his place! Together with three of our buddy bands, we will make this evening a blast!!
On top of that, we are dedicating this show to a very good cause: Stop Tetanus! Together with Kiwanis Bronsgroen, we are fundraising money to help mothers and their children! There will be a lottery with awesome prizes from our sponsors Snowstar Records, Muziek Shop Guus Arons and Recordstore Satisfaction!! A hint for the grand prizes? One has 6 strings, the other has 4…. AND THEY ARE AWESOME!!
Due to the problems with the original venue, we have moved the event to JC Downtown, Sittard!

Tour diary!!
It has been over a year since we did our first tour to Italy. We have been dreaming of coming back and finally we could! Unfortunately, this would also mark the end of an era, as it would be Ruben’s last time on the road with us. In honour of him, this would be our Second Feather Burning Tour.
Day 0 - Preparations
Arnout got up pretty early to pick up the van, which we could rent from the marvelous guys of Just Like Your Mom Tour Support. A trip to and from Amsterdam was worth it all, because the van was in perfect shape! In the evening, we had one last rehearsal and equipment check.
It turned out to be a good idea, because we encountered several problems! Some so bad, we first had to plan a trip to local music shop Guus Arons to fix them!
Day 1 - Metz
In the morning, all the equipment problems were solved, but not after starting a small fire at the music shop. The heroes from Guus Arons were so great in helping us, we can’t thank them enough. Finally, we were good to go and off we went!
First stop was Metz and sophisticated as we are, we first did some sightseeing at the cathedral. After the cultural intermezzo, we arrived at the venue, which was on a boat! It was great to see the guys from My Only Scenery again. We played a pretty good first show and were overwhelmed by the great respond we got! Thank you all for your kind words!

Thanks to Guillaume for the stagepicsAfter a great My Only Scenery show (love those guys), we had some nice pizza’s and a very good sleep. Thank you and your grandma, Brice (My Ony Scenery)!
Day 2 - Milano
We got up early to make the big journey to Milano. It was a long one, filled with Mario Kart, energy drinks and beautiful sceneries. A mandatory stop would be the ice cream shop of Grom, which we’ve all come to love since the last tour. After we all got our cones or cups (some even more), we drove to the venue.

It was the same place we played last year, but it did get an upgrade! A nice paintjob and some new equipment did a lot for this great venue. This time we played the Back To School Fest, with a great diversity in the line up. Again, it was an awesome night with a lot of good old friends and cool new people, and again, we were surprized by the flow of compliments we got after our show.

Thanks to Dome and Mariangela for the stagepics
The trip to Dome (Embrace Destruction/Face Your Enemy) was legendary, as we got lost in the few tiny alleys Milan has. Our friend Pelle (Embrace Destruction) managed to navigate us perfectly across all of them! When we finally reached our goal, we were rewarded with some delicious minipizzas and a good place to sleep.
Sitting in the van for that long makes x’A a bit weirdDay 3 - Cannobio
Due to miscommunications, we didn’t manage to book a show on the Saturday. Instead, Dome took us to the Italian supermarket, which was like a candystore to us! Have you ever seen Silvano running around on stage? That is exactly how he stormed through the store, each time carrying another item to throw in the shopping cart. Before we left Milano, Dome and his girl Mariangela cooked us some heavenly Italian dishes. We were spoiled once again, we love Italy!!

We got back into the van and headed for the Lago Maggiore, where we stopped in the town of Cannobio. There, we stumbled upon a nice open-air skate fest. After a few good talks with the organisation, we managed to get a last minute space in the program! Unfortunately, our luck was cruedly disrupted by the police, who forced the festival to shut down within an hour. This meant no stagetime for us. In the end though, we did have a good time with some nice Italian beer, enjoying the last band on stage. We set camp on a lovely little campingsite to gain some strength for our trip back.

Bohemian x’A-sody. To understand, you had to be there…Day 4 - Aachen
Our alarms were set very, very early and with sleepy eyes, we started our longest ride. The goal: our neighbour town Aachen. With all the traffic jams, it was a miracle we made it to the venue in time.

At the Musikbunker, some of us were reunited with their significant others. Also, we met two of the nicest German bands, A Drop In The Ocean and Ash To Ember. It would be a night filled with awesome music and starting friendships. We played our last show with passion, and although we were obviously tired, the reactions from the crowd were heartwarming. Thank you all!

Thanks to Mama Lie for the stagepicsAfter the loading at the venue, and unloading the backline at the designated places, we all got our longwanted rest. The next day, Arian still had the noble task of bringing back the van. For now though, tired but satisfied the Phoenix went to sleep…

Second Feather Burning Tour
Our engine is working at full speed! Besides training our new drummer Harry, we are awaiting the release of our music video and also some new merch for you to wear. On top of that, we are leaving for a nice little tour next week, named after Ruben’s departure: The Second Feather Burning. Packing our bags, setting up the tourschedule, having some last minute rehearsals… We are ready for it and looking forward to see our friends abroad :)
We’d love it if you find the chance to catch us on one of the shows! Also, we might still have one date free for booking. If you can get us somewhere on Saturday September 22nd, we would be the luckiest band in the world :)
Another date to keep in mind is October 20th, when Ruben will play his very last show with Phoenix’Ashes!!! This event will also be a fundraising for the worldwide project Stop Tetanus, as a collaboration with Kiwanis. Make sure you mark the date!!

Risen
Three months after our announcement about Ruben’s decision of leaving us, we can finally give you some awesome news!! We had some great drummers visiting our rehearsal in the last few months and we want to thank them all for their effort.
In the end though, there was only one name left. We present to you: the amazing Harry Hudson! We welcome him in our family and we are more than eager to roam the skies in this new formation! As we said earlier, Ruben will remain an Asher until the 20th of October. After that, Harry will take over his duties.
In the meantime, keep an eye on us! We have been working hard on our very first MV!! We finished shooting last night and we had a lot of fun doing it. It will be released on our website very soon…
